State Board Raises Promotion Score for Third Grade Guarantee

Ohio’s Third Grade Reading Guarantee is a program to identify students from kindergarten through grade 3 that are behind in reading. Toronto Elementary School staff will provide intervention and monitoring to ensure students are on track for reading by the end of third grade.

For the 2019-2020 school year, the promotion score for the grade 3 Ohio State Test in English Language Arts has been raised to 683 by the State Board of Education.  Any student who scores 683 or higher on the English language arts scaled score will be eligible for promotion at the end of the year.

In addition, the Ohio Department of Education has set the reading sub-score alternative promotion score for the grade 3 English language arts test at 46 for the 2019-2020 school year. Any student who scores 46 or higher on the reading sub-score will be eligible for promotion at the end of the year, even if the student scores below 683 on the English language arts test.
