Toronto Alumni Service Award

 Mrs. Melissa Brown was the 2024 recipient of the THS Alumni Service Award.  The award was established by the THS Alumni Association in 2018 to recognize the outstanding contributions of non-teaching staff members. Non-teaching school employees offer essential services to the school community and play a vital role in providing for the welfare, safety, and success of students. Mrs. Brown began her career in the Toronto City School District in 2016 as an elementary teacher. She currently works as the Dean of Student Academics at Toronto Jr.-Sr. High Schools.

Members of the Class of 2024 described Mrs. Brown as follows: “She is one of the most understanding and helpful people that I have ever come in contact with at Toronto High School. Mrs. Brown always has so much on her plate but never hesitated to step in and help me get my future planned effectively.”;  “Mrs. Brown has helped me with so many of my college classes as well as keeping me up to date with my schedules, classes, and any new information on colleges and jobs. “She is willing to help out anyone in need in any way she can. Mrs. Brown is a great resource but also a great person and is very kind to everyone she meets.”

Past winners of the award include Cindy Hritz, Katie Long, Holly Newbold, Cheryl King, Becky Kovach, Lisa Owen, and Toni Calabrese. Mrs. Brown and her husband live in Toronto. The couple has two sons, Ethan and Colin.
